Day Three- Rome, Italy

Buongiorno!! I can't even begin to describe how AMAZING we thought Rome was. We were so excited to go there and it did not disappoint! Every time we turned around there was something even more beautiful to take a picture of. Our favorite part was all of the history- Julius Caesar's Palace, The Coliseum, The Vatican. We wanted to see as much as possible while we were there so we had an extremely jam packed day BUT it was so worth it. Our guide was really helpful explaining the history behind everything and she also got us past all the lines and tourists which saved a ton of time. We had the perfect 3 course Italian lunch with a lot of red wine too :) Our first stop was The Coliseum!!

The lower portion was underground and used to have a roof over it. That is where they kept the animals and gladiators before the fights.

Jeff was pretending to be the Emperor- thumbs down means the Gladiator dies and thumbs up means the Gladiator lives!

Next up our guide took us to the Vatican. We went through the most important galleries of the Vatican Museum first. The museum displays paintings, sculptures, and marble works all collected by the Catholic Church. Then we had some free time to explore the Sistine Chapel, you are not allowed to take photos but Jeff snuck one of the ceiling. Next up we went inside St. Peter's Basilica and explored St. Peter's Square.

Holy Doors of St. Peter. They are only opened every 25 years- the last time they were opened was in 2000. During the holy year about 35 million people visit these doors.

We can't wait to go back to Rome someday and do some more exploring!
